How we recycle waste tyres

Wire Extraction

One component of a tyre is high quality steel ply, held in the beads and body (casing) of the tyre. We use a bespoke, industrial wire drawing machine to extract this wire from the tyre.

First, we mount the waste tyre onto a hook. A hydraulic ram, then pulls the wire, drawing it through a slot. whilst simultaneously stripping rubber away from the wires, leaving a purer product.

The tyre is then ready for shredding. The steel wires are collected and used as raw materials for producing steel bloom by hydraulic press-packing.

For some applications, we leave the wire in the tyre, to produce a rough shred that burns at different temperatures, which can be ideal for TDF production.

Shredder

After trialling many machines, we invested in the toughest recycling machinery designed to handle the largest earthmover tyres in the industry.

We use excavators to load the tyres into the upper hopper.

Our shredder works with two counter-rotating shafts that work to shear and tear the tyres apart.

The product is gravity-fed onto the lower hopper and dropped onto a conveyor belt. The product is relayed to a storage bay awaiting collection or further processing depending on the customer’s requirements.

The End Product - Rough Tyre Shred

We take up-to the largest, heaviest earthmover tyres in the UK, that would typically have been sent to landfill.

The rough tyre shred we produce can be turned into useful products using further processes such as crumbing and pyrolysis.

Applications can include horse menages, children’s play areas, garden mulch, tar macadam and alternative fuels such as TDF (Tyre Derived Fuel).

Our product can also be used for construction and civil engineering projects.
